Bipolar Disorder and Addiction
Bipolar Disorder (Manic Depression) is a mental illness. Bipolar individuals cycle between episode of mania (elevated mood) and depression (depressed mood). Bipolar Disorder often co-occurs with addiction. Bipolar individuals often self medicate with addictive drugs and are more likely to use addictive substances during states of mania. This can lead to addiction in addition to their manic depression.
