Cocaine Addiction
Cocaine (coke, blow, snow, crack...) is a potent psychologically addictive stimulant. Cocaine hydrochloride is an alkaloid salt extracted from the coca plant native to South America. Cocaine can be snorted, injected, or smoked. Cocaine impacts the level of neurotransmitters in the brain, most notably dopamine. Cocaine damages the brain and requires the addict to consumer more and more of the drug to reach the high. Once addicted, it is difficult to stop using cocaine. About 50% of cocaine addicts in recovery relapse within a year.
