Cost of Addiction
Each year in the US alone, addiction costs over a half a trillion dollars: $181 billion for illicit drugs, $168 billion for tobacco,$185 billion for alcohol... This only includes the measurable cost of health care and crime related to addiction. If we were able to add the generational and wide reaching costs of the physical and mental abuse, failure in school and work, and diminished life potential associated with addiction, the total cost would be substantially greater.
